  • BUNDA SHINES WITH AVATAR STAR AT OSCARS

    Posted by alyx - March 8, 2010 00:49

An Academy Award won’t be the only shining treasure to covet at tonight’s Oscars, when Bunda sends a bespoke pair of earrings down the red carpet.

Breakout star Sam Worthington’s gorgeous girlfriend Natalie Mark will be wearing the splendid jewels, which are some of the only Australian-designed pieces to be worn at the star-studded event.

The earrings are a perfect choice for Mark, because their light-catching kaleidoscopic surface brings to mind the rich dappled blues of Avatar’s Pandora. James Cameron’s visual piece is nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and more, but Worthington’s girlfriend has already won in the style stakes.

Ben Bunda’s design work deserves a gold statue of its own; he’s showcased the natural beauty of the 132-carat Australian boulder opals in a refined, modernist setting that’s both opulent and elegant.

While we can’t all date a movie star, or wear Bunda’s specialty super-rare jewels, it is still possible to get red carpet worthy style with Bunda Boutique. With Bunda Boutique, Ben Bunda applies his considered aesthetic approach, and high-concept design to more accessible pieces. The Bundova earrings show the same gorgeous diamond lining as Mark’s pair, while the Arkose pair make a big statement for a little price.

So while you’re watching the glamour of the Oscars, why not treat yourself to your own slice of Hollywood chic?

All I want for Christmas is Bunda Boutique!

    Posted by alyx - December 16, 2009 20:15

As we careen toward Christmas, we thought we’d share some of the products we’re salivating over. Santa please take note, as any of these would be more than acceptable in our stockings.

    The Lava Ring

We love the lines on this ring. The planes of the top surface are sloped so elegantly, and the subtle difference in shape from top to bottom somehow manages to transform our fingers into those of a dainty 19th century lady. It’s also a little bit huge, which makes it work well in a couple of ways. You can either go solo with it, for an evening look that says “I don’t want the silly season to end”, or you can take a cue from Kaiser Karl and wear it with loads of other equally outsized pieces to create a fashion-forward knuckle-duster.

To top it off, this piece comes with options, and lots of them. In resin (retailing for $195) you can get it in a tribal ivory, a rich amber– actually, the amber and ivory look really good when worn together on the same hand – and a minimalist black. It also comes in matt silver and a beautiful brushed rose gold.

    The Schist Earring

Want to know a secret? At 13, it was time to get our ears pierced, but we chickened out three times before going through with the deed. We reckon if we’d seen these, we’d have done it ourselves with a needle and an apple just so we could try them on. The long, slender curve of these earrings is what makes them really special, and the tapered ends give them a pleasant dangle.

We’ll be wearing them with a simple up-do in the evenings to show off the lines of our neck, or with our hair down during the day to add a hint of metal to every head movement. The Schist Earrings are $450 and come in a wide range of finishes, from a light, brushed silver to a deep polished black. We’d suggest a shiny finish for ultra formal occasions, and a brushed look for more casual affairs.

    The Corset Bangle

Not just for recovering Goths (although if you know one, this comes highly recommended), the Corset Bangle is one of our newest editions. We like that it looks a little like armour, but those stitch detailing tip us straight into amour.  This statement piece gives It Girl chic when worn with day-wear, and in the evenings it can look either elegent or rock and roll.

We’d love to see it worn with a strapless cocktail frock and messy hair, or with cut-offs, a distressed vintage tee and big black sunglasses. The bangle’s long, lean lines mean it can also work with maxi-dresses, creating a look that has a hint of Greek Goddess. The Corset Bangle comes in brushed gold and silver, and retails at $520.

    Bunda Boutique's Opening Party

    Posted by alyx - December 9, 2009 17:50

Welcome to the Bunda Boutique blog, where we’ll keep you posted on all the latest happenings with Bunda Boutique and our friends.

Last month we flung open our figurative doors for the first time, with the launch of our online store. We were so excited about the opening that we had to celebrate, and what better way to do that than with a party?

We invited all our friends and filled up The Club, a sexy venue that sits in the centre of Sydney’s Kings Cross.

The crowd sipped on Belvedere cocktails as they scoped out our handy work. With the help of some posters and glass cabinets, we’d transformed the foyer into an after-hours version of our QVB store.

Our brushed metal bangles and resin rings proved particularly popular with guests, while our It Girl of the evening, Kym Ellery, wore a series of pretty pendants and plenty of rings.

As the night progressed, so did the party, with more and more people flooding into The Club. The guests were a perfect blend of musos, models, designers and our gorgeous customers, and we all enjoyed a dance to The Club’s house DJs and up and coming indie stars Bird Automatic.

By the end of the night, we’d had so much fun that we knew we had to do it again some time soon. If you want to be in the know when it comes to our next party, why not sign up to our newsletter?
